Powerscourt House

We would encourage anyone visiting Dublin to include Powerscourt house during their private shore excursion. In 1730 the 1st Viscount Powerscourt (of the third creation) commissioned the architect Richard Castle to build Powerscourt House, a 68 room mansion which was completed in 1741. The mansion was designed around the medieval castle in the style of Palladian architecture which is based on the formal classical temple architecture of the Ancient Greeks and Romans.

Powerscourt Gardens

One of the world’s great gardens, Powerscourt is situated in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The garden was begun by Richard Wingfield in the 1740s and stretches out over 47 acres. It is a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces and ornamental lakes together with secret hollows, rambling walks, walled gardens and over 200 varieties of trees and shrubs.

“These gardens are world renound and justifiably so. There are a number of individual gardens surrounding the central fountain (breath taking) and each has its own charm. There was a Japanese Garden, a fern grotto, ponds with brilliant water lilies, a formal garden, and then the Rose Garden. I would imagine this area to be at least 300 years old and the roses are just beautiful, brightly colored and wonderfully fragrant. I'm not much of a garden person, but this was really worth seeing.” Peter from Missouri in the U.S., Tripadvisor®
